To strengthen Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA)’s position as an e-commerce fulfilment hub, HKIA collaborated with Zhuhai Airport and Chinese e-commerce logistics company Cainiao to launch an innovative cross-border e-commerce logistics service, "Fly-via-Zhuhai air-land-air cargo service". This is a new model to Mainland China, introducing a fast-track import e-commerce route. Leveraging HKIA’s extensive global connectivity (covering nearly 200 destinations), the land transport efficiency of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and Zhuhai Airport’s domestic connectivity, the service greatly enhances cross-border parcel delivery efficiency.

In August 2024, HKIA has conducted a trial on “Fly-via-Zhuhai air-land-air cargo services”. Under this model, imported goods are first airlifted to HKIA, where e-commerce merchants can stock inventory at Cainiao’s Hong Kong Fulfillment Center, located in Cainiao Smart Gateway at HKIA. Once an order is placed, Cainiao transports the goods via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to Zhuhai, then shipped to nearly 80 cities in Mainland using the belly cargo space on passenger flights from Zhuhai Airport. The final leg is handled by local couriers for doorstep delivery. Compared to the traditional all-land transport after arriving in Hong Kong, the "Fly-via-Zhuhai air-land-air cargo service" model significantly reduces transit time, enabling next-day delivery to cities including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai with improved experience.

"Fly-via-Zhuhai air-land-air cargo service" strategically integrates the complementary aviation networks of Hong Kong and Zhuhai and fully utilizes the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to shorten travel distances. The service also exemplifies how Greater Bay Area infrastructure can strengthen the region’s role as a cross-border logistics hub.
